The coalition Nova Democracia União Eleitoral (ND) submitted its candidacy for the legislative elections of 5 September 2008. After being ordered to remedy deficiencies, the Court had to verify the candidates' eligibility, coverage of all constituencies and the minimum number of supporters. The Court admitted the candidacy and lists because the legal requirements were met, but excluded 199 of the 271 candidates, mainly for lack of an identity card and of a declaration accepting the candidacy.
