The Attorney General applied for a declaration that the União Democrática dos Povos de Angola (UDPA) be dissolved for failing to contest the 2008 and 2012 elections. The party argued that the repeal of the 1992 Constitutional Law required electoral participation to be counted afresh. The Court declared the party dissolved, because the rule already existed under the previous law and aims to prevent inactive parties without national representativeness from remaining in political life.
