The Attorney General applied for the dissolution of the União Nacional Patriótica para a Democracia (UNPD) for failing to take part in the 2008 and 2012 elections. The party admitted it had not taken part, attributing this to the political climate in which the elections were held. The Court declared the party dissolved, holding that non-participation in two consecutive elections is an objective ground for dissolution, regardless of the reasons behind it.
