Yesterday, 17 June 2024, the Constitutional Court marked 16 years since its institutionalisation, which formally took place in 2008.
Accordingly, in order to mark the anniversary in a fitting manner, the Court is promoting a number of activities aimed at fostering public debate on its institutional remit as guardian of the Constitution of the Republic and at helping to raise citizens' knowledge of legal and constitutional matters.
Among the planned activities, the presentation of the second edition of the academic journal “A GUARDIÔ is scheduled for tomorrow, Wednesday, 19 June 2024, at 10.00 am. It is a compendium of more than 500 pages, published and distributed by the Constitutional Court.
With a print run of 800 copies, this edition of the academic journal “A GUARDIÔ features a variety of thought-provoking articles of a technical and scientific nature by renowned national and international jurists and academics with in-depth knowledge and experience of the subject, such as Adlezio Agostinho, Bangula Quemba, Cremildo Paca, Cristina Gaulia, Efigénia Clemente, Francisco Queiroz, Gilberto Luther, Herminio Rodrigues, João Pinto, João Ramiro, Orlando Fernandes, Pedro Fiete, Raul Araújo, Rui Verde and Simão Victor, who address a range of topics related to constitutionalism. Also worthy of note is the text written by the Angolan Full Professor Elisa Rangel, which discusses the “Imaginário dos Direitos Sociais e do Estado de Bem-Estar Social” (The Imaginary of Social Rights and the Welfare State), the featured text in this edition.
Also as part of the celebrations of its sixteenth anniversary, the Constitutional Court has scheduled a special Plenary Session for 25 June, at which children from various schools in the Municipalities of Cacuaco, Talatona, Viana and Luanda will have the opportunity to witness the work of the Justices of this Constitutional Court during the Plenary sessions, particularly the process of reviewing and approving judgments.
