With the aim of encouraging students' interest in and practice of law, and of contributing to raising levels of literacy on legal and constitutional matters, the Constitutional Court held a Special Plenary on the morning of this Tuesday, 25 June 2024, at the Palace of Justice in Luanda.
The Plenary Session was attended by 50 pupils from primary schools in the Municipalities of Cacuaco and Viana, as well as students from Colégio Gregório Semedo, the Faculty of Law of Agostinho Neto University, the Faculty of Law of the Methodist University and the Faculty of Law of Lusíada University.
At the Session, presided over by the President of the Court, Justice Laurinda Prazeres Monteiro Cardoso, the Plenary of the Constitutional Court examined a hypothetical case of an extraordinary appeal on grounds of unconstitutionality, with Justice Júlia Ferreira as Rapporteur. The young students had the opportunity to witness, for the first time, all the stages of the examination and discussion of a case, namely from its consideration in general terms, through its detailed consideration, to the approval of the Judgment, which is subsequently made public.
With this exercise, the Constitutional Court closed the celebrations of its sixteenth anniversary, which, it should be recalled, began on the 8th with the holding, in the Municipality of Cacuaco, of the third edition of the Ondjango da Constituição (a community forum on the Constitution), an event also held in Viana on the 12th of this month. On 19 June, the Constitutional Court presented the second edition of its academic journal “A GUARDIÔ.
The Constitutional Court was institutionalised in 2008 and its plenary is composed of 11 Justices.
