The request was presented on the morning of this Wednesday, 29 May 2024, to the President of the Constitutional Court, Justice Laurinda Prazeres Monteiro Cardoso, when she received in audience the leaders of the Association of the Blind and Partially Sighted of Angola (Associação de Cegos e Amblíopes de Angola – ANCAA).
At the meeting, which was also attended by Wilson Relvas and António Ventura, respectively Vice-President and Legal Affairs Adviser of the association, the President of ANCAA, Manuel Quental, presented the work that the institution he heads has been carrying out in the defence, promotion and dissemination of the Human Rights of blind and partially sighted people in Angola.
Manuel Quental reported that one of the major difficulties faced by his association is the near absence of legal documents written in braille, and took the opportunity to request the good offices of the President of the Constitutional Court in making efforts so that the country may have the Constitution written in braille, the tactile writing system used by people who are blind or have low vision.
ANCAA is present in 10 provinces and has approximately 5,000 members, including children, young people and adults.
