A defendant convicted at first instance lodged an extraordinary appeal on grounds of unconstitutionality against the Supreme Court Criminal Chamber judgment refusing his habeas corpus application, alleging excessive pre-trial detention and breach of fundamental rights. While the case was pending, the Supreme Court acquitted him on ordinary appeal. The Court declared that the proceedings had become devoid of purpose and terminated them, since the aim of the habeas corpus application had already been achieved.
