Several citizens lodged an extraordinary appeal on grounds of unconstitutionality against a Supreme Court judgment upholding their 3-year prison sentence for forming a terrorist organisation, invoking the principles of retroactive application of the more favourable criminal law and of legality after Law No. 19/17 came into force. The Court dismissed the appeal because the sentence fell within the range set by the new law, which had in fact been applied, and the judge could set it within that range.
