Three defendants in pre-trial detention, committed for trial more than eight months after arrest without any order extending the time limit, appealed against a Supreme Court judgment refusing their habeas corpus application on the ground that the case was especially complex. The Court allowed the appeal and declared the judgment unconstitutional for breach of the right to liberty, since the appellants had been deprived of liberty beyond the legal time limits.
