A citizen convicted at first instance, with an appeal pending and detained since February 2018, lodged an extraordinary appeal on grounds of unconstitutionality against the Supreme Court judgment refusing his habeas corpus application, alleging excessive pre-trial detention. The Court held that the statutory limits had not been exceeded before conviction but that, as the law sets no post-conviction limits and 24 months had elapsed, he should be released.
