A convicted citizen lodged an extraordinary appeal on grounds of unconstitutionality against the Supreme Court Criminal Chamber judgment upholding his conviction and increasing his sentence from 12 to 16 years' imprisonment, invoking the presumption of innocence, the right to a fair and speedy trial and the prohibition of reformatio in pejus. The Court found no constitutional breach, notably because the Public Prosecution Service had also appealed, not solely in the defendant's interest.
