Four citizens convicted of offences including aggravated robbery appealed against a Supreme Court judgment that upheld the first-instance decision while increasing their sentences, invoking, among others, the prohibition of reformatio in peius, legality and a fair trial. In its reasoning the Court found that the judgment breached the duty to give reasons and the principle of legality by increasing sentences without its own reasoning, and remitted the case.
