A former school manager, sentenced by the Huambo District Court to five years' imprisonment for embezzlement, a decision upheld by the Supreme Court, lodged an extraordinary appeal on grounds of unconstitutionality, invoking legality, the presumption of innocence, in dubio pro reo, the adversarial principle, a fair trial and the duty to state reasons. The Court dismissed the appeal, as the appellant had actively taken part in all stages of the proceedings and had himself forgone the adversarial pre-trial hearing.
