Two citizens sentenced by the Supreme Court to seven years' imprisonment for embezzlement appealed against that judgment, invoking the principles of legality, equality and in dubio pro reo, and the application of the amnesty laws. The Court allowed the appeal because the Supreme Court had failed to apply the remission of one quarter of the sentence provided for in Law No. 11/16, and remitted the case so that the appellants would benefit from that remission.
