The appellant, convicted of fraud, lodged an extraordinary appeal on grounds of unconstitutionality against the judgment of the Criminal Chamber of the Supreme Court upholding his conviction, alleging that his confession had been obtained through physical coercion and invoking the privilege against self-incrimination and the right to a fair trial. The Court dismissed the appeal because the conviction also rested on documentary, witness and physical evidence, the sentence had been reduced from 13 to 10 years, and it is not its role to reassess the facts.
