A defendant sentenced at first instance to 24 years' imprisonment lodged an extraordinary appeal on grounds of unconstitutionality against the order of the President of the Supreme Court refusing her habeas corpus application, alleging that she had been in pre-trial detention for over five years pending her appeal, in breach of effective judicial protection. The Court declared the proceedings closed as devoid of purpose, because her conviction had meanwhile become final.
