The Republic of Mozambique is hosting, on 15 and 16 July 2024, the 6th Assembly of the Conference of Constitutional Jurisdictions of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CJCPLP), a programme in which the President of the Constitutional Court of Angola, Justice Laurinda Prazeres Monteiro Cardoso, is taking part.
CONSTITUTIONAL JURISDICTION AND OTHER POWERS is the theme of the event, which is being held at the Joaquim Chissano International Conference Centre. During the two days of work, the heads of the Constitutional Jurisdictions of the Portuguese-speaking countries will examine various issues relating to the functioning of the organisation, most notably the revision of its statutes and the choice of the new Presidency.
At the event, opened on the morning of this Monday by the President of the Republic of Mozambique, Filipe Jacinto Nyusi, the President of the Constitutional Court, Justice Laurinda Prazeres Cardoso, presented a paper based on the theme of the event.
In addition to the Constitutional Court of Angola and the Constitutional Council of Mozambique, as host, the participants also include the Federal Supreme Court of Brazil, the Constitutional Court of Cabo Verde, the Supreme Court of Justice of Guinea-Bissau, the Constitutional Court of Portugal, the Constitutional Court of São Tomé and Príncipe and the Court of Appeal of Timor-Leste.
Established in 2008 in Brazil, the CJCPLP's main objective is judicial, jurisprudential and scientific cooperation among the Supreme Bodies with Constitutional Jurisdiction of the countries that make up the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP), and it is currently chaired by the Constitutional Council of Mozambique.
Justice Josefa Neto and staff of the Constitutional Court are also part of the Angolan delegation.
