Following the precautionary evacuation that took place on Wednesday, 16 July, at the Palace of Justice, the Constitutional Court, in its capacity as the entity that manages the building, wishes to announce the following:

At around 9.00 am, some staff members of one of the institutions operating in the Palace of Justice reported that they had noticed a strong smell of cooking gas throughout the floor. Consequently, all staff were advised, as a precaution, to leave the building immediately and to remain in the outer courtyard.

In view of the situation, the officials of the Constitutional Court immediately called out the Palace of Justice Fire Brigade Unit, which promptly went to the scene and carried out a thorough inspection of all areas of the building.

After an exhaustive inspection, the firefighters established that there had been no gas leak whatsoever, since the Palace of Justice, with its 12 storeys, has no piped gas system and does not use conventional gas cylinders on any of its floors.

The fire brigade team also inspected the restaurant located on the ground floor, where, despite the use of cooking gas, it was likewise confirmed that there was no leak.

Once all the technical checks had been completed, it was determined that this had been a false alarm. In view of this, the firefighters authorised the staff to return to their respective workstations.

The Constitutional Court, as the body responsible for managing the Palace of Justice, wishes to reassure all users of the building and reaffirms its commitment to the safety of all those who use the premises, in continuous coordination with the Fire Brigade.
