With 18 points, Rui Jorge Ricardo da Costa, aged 22, a fifth-year Law student at Agostinho Neto University, won first place in the final of the Academic Competition on the 50 Years of Angolan Constitutionalism, organised by the Constitutional Court as part of the celebrations of the fiftieth anniversary of National Independence.
Kleine do Carmo Santos Mendes, aged 22, a fifth-year student at the Catholic Polytechnic Higher Institute of Huambo, scored 17 points and took second place. Third place went to Eusilio Graciano da Costa, aged 21, a student at the Higher Institute of Social Sciences and International Relations in Luanda, with 16 points.
The jury assessed the finalists on the relevance and topicality of the subjects presented, the quality of the writing, methodological rigour, the comparative law framework and scientific originality. Their demeanour before the jury and the objectivity, concision and depth of their answers to the questions put to them were also taken into account.
The final session was attended by Justices of the Constitutional Court, the Minister of Higher Education, Technology and Innovation, the Secretary of State for Education and other dignitaries.
The award ceremony is scheduled for 16 December. The winner will receive one million kwanzas, undertake a curricular internship at the Constitutional Court and have his work published in the institution's academic journal. Those placed second and third will receive 800,000 and 600,000 kwanzas respectively, as well as the opportunity to undertake a curricular internship.
