A citizen sentenced at first instance to 16 years' imprisonment for homicide lodged an extraordinary appeal on grounds of unconstitutionality against a Supreme Court judgment refusing his habeas corpus application, alleging that pre-trial detention limits had been exceeded. Meanwhile, the conviction was upheld on appeal and became final. The Court declared that the proceedings had become devoid of purpose and closed them, since ruling on the habeas corpus application no longer served any purpose.
