On 5 February 2024, Angola marks the 14th anniversary of the promulgation of the Constitution of the Republic, an important occasion for in-depth reflection on the principles and values enshrined in the Constitution.
As the Constitution is an emanation of society, defining all its aspirations, whether political, social, economic, cultural, environmental or other, the Constitutional Court, as guardian of the Magna Carta, is holding from 5 to 10 February 2024 the Semana da Constituição (Constitution Week), an integrated series of activities intended to celebrate in a fitting manner the entry into force of the Constitution of the Republic of Angola on 5 February 2010.
Among the activities to be held, a Round Table is scheduled for 5 February 2024 in the Municipality of Cuito, Bié Province, with the participation of distinguished figures, notably the President of the Constitutional Court, Justice Laurinda Prazeres Monteiro Cardoso. Various matters relating to the fundamental Law of the State will be addressed at the event. Also in Bié Province, in the Municipality of Andulo, the Ondjango da Constituição (a community forum on the Constitution) is scheduled to take place on 6 February, a meeting with young students of the first and second cycles of secondary education in that part of the country to discuss fundamental rights, freedoms and guarantees, thereby seeking to strengthen citizens' levels of constitutional literacy.
Similar events are also scheduled for the Provinces of Cuanza Norte and Luanda.
In the light of the provisions of the Constitution of the Republic of Angola, the Constitutional Court invites all justice practitioners, and Angolan society as a whole, to take an active part in the Constitution Day celebrations, promoting actions aimed at greater knowledge and understanding of the Fundamental Law of the State.
