Students of the Lubango Special School (Escola Especial do Lubango) and members of the Association of the Blind and Partially Sighted (Associação de Cegos e Amblíopes) received copies of the Constitution of the Republic in braille format, made available by the Constitutional Court of Angola.
The handover took place during the Ondjango da Constituição (a community forum on the Constitution) held in the city of Lubango, and was conducted by the President of the Constitutional Court, Justice Laurinda Prazeres.
The translation of the Constitution of the Republic into braille is a pioneering initiative of the Constitutional Court, aimed at promoting citizenship and ensuring that persons with visual impairments have access to the State's principal legal document. The measure reinforces the institution's commitment to equal access to information and to the full exercise of fundamental rights.
Braille is a system of reading and writing based on raised dots, which enables blind or partially sighted people to read by touch.
