The winners of the Concurso Académico sobre os 50 Anos do Constitucionalismo Angolano (Academic Competition on 50 Years of Angolan Constitutionalism), promoted by the Constitutional Court, received their awards today, Thursday, 18 December 2025, at a ceremony held at the Palace of Justice and chaired by the President of the Constitutional Court, Justice Laurinda Prazeres.
Rui Jorge da Costa, the winner of the competition, received a certificate of merit and a cheque for one million three hundred thousand kwanzas. The first-placed candidate was also awarded a six-month curricular internship at the Constitutional Court and will have his article published in the Constitutional Court's academic journal.
The second-placed candidate, Kleine do Carmo Santos Mendes, a Law student specialising in Criminal Law at the Catholic Polytechnic Higher Institute of Huambo (Instituto Superior Politécnico Católico do Huambo), received a certificate of recognition and merit, a cheque for one million kwanzas and a six-month curricular internship at the Constitutional Court.
In third place was Eusîlio Calisto Laurindo Graciano, a 22-year-old Law student specialising in Civil Law at the Higher Institute of Social Sciences and International Relations (Instituto Superior de Ciências Sociais e Relações Internacionais), CIS, who received a certificate of recognition and merit, a cheque for eight hundred thousand kwanzas and the opportunity to undertake a curricular internship at the Constitutional Court.
The competition jury also awarded honourable mentions and a cheque for four hundred thousand kwanzas to Analides Silva de Andrade Pedro, Abninel Catarino José and António Fatima da Costa, finalists in the competition.
Held between January and December 2025, the Academic Competition on 50 Years of Angolan Constitutionalism aimed to stimulate scientific research in the field of Constitutional Law and to strengthen the link between academic legal knowledge and constitutional jurisdiction. The initiative involved 28 Law students from 15 higher education institutions across the country and formed part of the Constitutional Court's actions to mark the 50th anniversary of National Independence.
